Tragic Death of Redwood High Student Alexandra Hinks in Marin County – Community Mourns Loss of ‘Owl’

Marin County, California – The community is mourning the tragic loss of Alexandra Hinks, a beloved 16-year-old student from Redwood High School who passed away in an apparent suicide. Known affectionately as ‘Owl’ by her friends and family, Alexandra was a rising junior who touched the lives of many with her warm and engaging personality.

Alexandra had a deep love for animals, often volunteering at the local animal shelter and dreaming of becoming a veterinarian. Her compassionate nature was evident in her relationships with both animals and people. Whether she was helping a friend in need or assisting a classmate with their studies, Alexandra’s kindness shone brightly. Her teachers admired her dedication and enthusiasm, both academically and in extracurricular activities.

The news of her passing has left the community in shock, with many struggling to comprehend the loss. On social media, tributes poured in from those who knew her.

Leah Masterson shared, "There were a few years where the foursome of @alexandra_hinks @margiewhitakerr @ellie_sadrian and @sophie.masterson18 had sleepovers almost every weekend. I remember the crazy giggling so vividly. We will miss you forever, Owl."

Camille Souza Roth wrote, "Memories that will bring joy for a lifetime."

Hannah Tai expressed, "I hope something comes of this terrible tragedy so that these young souls feel that there is help. This is sad beyond words."

Kim Welch reflected, "Kids are supposed to be kids. Not to have a worry at all. Play, have friends, laugh and grow. I’m so sad for Owl’s family and friends. Sending you all so much gentle love."

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help Alexandra’s family during this difficult time. Victoria, Paul, and Zoe, her family members, have expressed their deep gratitude for the overwhelming love and support they have received.

As the community continues to grieve, the memory of Alexandra Hinks—her kindness, her love for animals, and her radiant spirit—will remain in the hearts of those who knew her. An obituary for Alexandra will be released at a later date.
