Vermont Community Rallies to Honor Sgt. Gunnar E. Watson with Memorial Benches in State Parks

Wheelock, Vermont – Sgt. Gunnar E. Watson, a beloved member of the Vermont community, was tragically murdered at his home on October 16, 2023, while leaving for work. In honor of his memory, his family has initiated a fundraiser to place memorial benches in Vermont state parks, places Gunnar deeply cherished.

The fundraiser, organized by Jason Watson, has been created on GoFundMe with a goal of $3,000. These funds will be used to purchase two durable benches, complete with metal engraved plaques, that will be installed in different Vermont state parks. The total amount raised so far is $95, with contributions from Henry Ford and George Liddy.

Jason Watson, who is leading the fundraising effort, shared that the idea for the benches came after numerous inquiries from the community about how they could help. The benches will be a lasting tribute to Sgt. Watson, reflecting his love for the outdoors. Any additional funds raised beyond the goal will be donated to Vermont State Parks.

The community has shown support and affection for Sgt. Watson through various platforms. Jason Watson expressed his gratitude, saying, "We love you, Gunny," in a heartfelt Facebook post.

The fundraiser continues to gather momentum as people come together to honor Sgt. Gunnar E. Watson’s legacy. Those who wish to contribute can do so through the GoFundMe platform, ensuring that the memory of Sgt. Watson will be preserved in the natural beauty of Vermont’s state parks.
