Weston Community Mourns the Loss of Former Firefighter Robert MacIsaac After His Body Is Found in Aspetuck River

Weston, Connecticut – The Weston community is grieving the loss of Robert “Bob” MacIsaac, a 59-year-old former firefighter whose body was discovered in the Aspetuck River on Thursday evening. MacIsaac, a Weston native and former member of the Weston Fire Department, tragically lost his life over the weekend during a severe storm that struck the area.

The discovery of MacIsaac’s body occurred around 5:25 p.m. near the intersection of Bayberry Lane and Easton Road in Westport. Earlier that day, Weston police had informed Fairfield authorities about MacIsaac’s vehicle, which was found submerged in the river behind Aspetuck Falls in Fairfield. The vehicle was unoccupied, and police divers confirmed that no one was found near the scene. It is believed that the car had been in the river for several days.

Robert MacIsaac was last seen on Sunday at approximately 5 p.m., with his vehicle reportedly sighted in Wilton at 10 p.m. that same night. Initial investigations suggest that the extreme weather conditions on Sunday may have played a role in the incident, though the exact cause of the accident and subsequent death remains under investigation. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the definitive cause of death.

The Weston Volunteer Fire Department expressed their sorrow over the loss of their former colleague in a heartfelt social media post. "Bob was a great friend to many of our members and always lended a hand wherever needed," the post read. "Service arrangements have not been finalized, but we will share them when they become available."

The news of Robert MacIsaac’s passing has deeply affected those who knew him. Several community members took to Facebook to share their condolences and memories:

As the investigation into this tragic event continues, the community of Weston reflects on the life of a man who served his town with dedication and kindness. The circumstances surrounding his death are a sobering reminder of the dangers posed by extreme weather and the importance of safety.
