Odessa, TX—Donnavin Joe "DJ" Brown passed away on August 13, 2024, leaving a deep void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Born on April 15, 2003, DJ was just 21 years old when he passed, but in his short life, he made a lasting impact on his community and those around him.
DJ is remembered as a beacon of love and gentleness, with an infectious smile and a selfless nature that touched everyone he met. His loving partner, Jocelyn Ibarra, and his parents, Kevin and Allison Hensley, along with Jessica Brown, are among the many who grieve his loss. DJ’s legacy lives on through his two beautiful daughters, Brilana Annett Brown and Ariella Twyla Olivas. His grandparents, Pam and Howard Blount, and Garland and Kathy Hensley, along with his brothers, Drake Brown, Devon Brown, and Ryan Hensley, will carry forward the memories of his kind spirit.
DJ was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. His soft-spoken demeanor and ever-present happiness made him a joy to be around. Known for his love of dancing, music, and the open road, DJ had a passion for life that was evident in everything he did. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, and his love for God shone brightly in his daily actions.
The community has rallied together to support DJ’s family during this difficult time. A fundraiser has been organized by Taylor Whisenhunt to assist with DJ’s funeral expenses, and so far, $195 has been raised out of the $10,000 goal. Contributions have come from friends and family, including Elexia Rangel, who donated $100, and Josh England, who contributed $60.
The community has also shared their condolences and memories on social media. Sandra Lujan posted, "Rest in peace," while Janie Paredes offered, "Our deepest condolences." Ashlyn Pippen, who knew DJ personally, shared, "Oh my, I knew him, he was a great boy and sweet." Other heartfelt messages have come from Ida Minjarez Rubalcado, Anita Espinoza, Krystal Barrera, Triva Williams, and Deniece Cearley, all of whom have expressed their prayers and support for DJ’s family.
Visitation for DJ will begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Acres West 24 Hour Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 23, 2024, at the same location.
