Gary was recognized as a veteran, even though he was dishonorably discharged from the military. Despite this, he continued to be seen as a valuable member of the community, remembered for his contributions and the joy he brought to those around him. His final wish was to be cremated and placed in a Dallas Cowboys urn, a request that reflects his love for the team and his unique personality.

To honor Gary’s wishes and cover the expenses for his memorial and cremation, a fundraiser has been organized by Christopher Pemberton. Christopher, a close friend, has set up the "Support Gary McDonald’s Memorial Fund" on GoFundMe. So far, $200 has been raised toward a goal of $2,000, thanks to a single donation from Christopher himself. The community is encouraged to support this cause, ensuring Gary’s final wishes are fulfilled.

Christopher expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to Gary’s life and now to his memorial. He noted that Gary was able to share his life’s memories with those he loved before passing, and the support from the community means a great deal.
