Jay Scott, West Des Moines, IA—Jay Scott passed away recently, leaving his family and friends in deep sorrow. Born on December 8th, 1974, Jay’s life came to an untimely end on August 13th, 2024, following a prolonged battle with liver problems. Despite the best efforts of doctors and nurses, his condition deteriorated, and he was pronounced brain dead after almost a week of being on life support.
Jay was surrounded by loved ones during his final moments. His sister, Jodi, and his mother, Judi, held his hand as he passed away to the tune of Willie Nelson’s "Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground." In a final act of generosity, Jay had chosen to be an organ donor, and his heart and other organs were successfully donated, giving life and hope to others.
Caitlin Scott, his niece, has organized a fundraiser to help cover the $8,500 cost of Jay’s funeral. The family, struggling with the unexpected financial burden, has already received $1,075 in donations from kind supporters, including a $1,000 contribution from Mike Davis.
Jay’s memory lives on not only in the hearts of those who knew him but also in the lives he saved through organ donation. The Scott family appreciates the love, support, and donations from those who have reached out during this difficult time.
We are deeply saddened to learn of Jay Scott’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this challenging time.
