Maurie Watman, San Clemente, CA—The San Clemente community is in deep mourning following the tragic passing of Maurie Watman. Maurie was struck by a car this past Thursday, August 15th, while escorting his wife, Margo, to a doctor’s appointment near their home. In an act of selflessness and love, Maurie’s final gesture was to push Margo to safety, sacrificing his life for hers.
Maurie was a beloved figure, known for his dedication to his family, friends, and community. He was a devoted grandfather, affectionately known as "Pop-pop," and was deeply involved in the lives of his three grandchildren. His life was characterized by generosity, humor, and an unwavering love for his wife, Margo. The couple, who were married for nearly 50 years, were known for their inseparable bond, serving as a model of love and devotion to those around them.
Margo now faces the difficult road ahead as a widow in her late 70s, grieving the loss of her husband. The emotional and financial toll is significant, especially as she navigates the legal complexities of pursuing a case against the driver responsible. A fundraiser organized by Nell O’Leary has been set up to support Margo during this challenging time, with a goal of $50,000.
The community is encouraged to contribute to help ease Margo’s financial burden, honoring Maurie’s memory by supporting the woman he loved so dearly.
We are deeply saddened by the loss of Maurie Watman. Our thoughts and prayers are with Margo and the entire Watman family during this heartbreaking time.
