Melinda Pleasant, Seattle, WA – A Community Honors a Beloved Artist and Mother

Melinda Pleasant, Seattle, WA—The artistic community and the Pleasant family are deeply mourning the loss of Melinda Pleasant, who passed away on August 2, 2024. Born on January 14, 1958, Melinda was a remarkable artist whose work and spirit touched the lives of many.

Melinda was not only an artist but also a devoted mother to seven children and a loving grandmother to thirteen grandchildren. Her son, Donald Pleasant, has organized a GoFundMe campaign titled "Honoring Melinda Pleasant’s Life Through Art" to continue her legacy. The campaign aims to raise $8,000, though no donations have been made at this time.

Melinda’s life was a testament to resilience and faith. Diagnosed with colon cancer in 2017, she fought courageously for 8.5 years, inspiring all who knew her with her strength and unwavering belief in God. Despite her battle with cancer, Melinda remained positive, with her son Donald recalling how she taught him to keep faith and trust in God, even during the toughest times.

Her impact on those around her was profound. Linda Cunningham, a close friend, shared on Facebook, "I miss my friend a lot! She was so kind… she loved and fought so hard… Bless her, now pain-free and in the arms of her maker, God the Father!" Gwen C Allen-Carston also expressed her condolences, saying, "She may be gone physically, yet her spirit lives on." The outpouring of love and support on social media highlights the deep connections Melinda fostered throughout her life.

Melinda’s artistic legacy is equally significant. She was passionate about art and passed that passion on to her children and those around her. Donald shared how his mother introduced him to art, teaching him the importance of staying within the lines while coloring—a lesson that extended beyond art and into life. Her colorful masterpieces, vibrant spirit, and stylish presence will forever be remembered.

Pleasant Art, the studio Melinda founded, will continue to honor her memory by embodying her spirit of giving and creativity. As Donald expressed, "In honor of Melinda Pleasant, let art be your highest level of hope, putting your faith in God."

We are deeply saddened to learn of Melinda Pleasant’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones during this difficult time.
