Richard Prather, Nicholasville, KY—Community Mourns the Loss of a Dedicated Officer

Richard Prather, a respected member of the Nicholasville community, passed away on August 18, 2024, following a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Richard devoted over 22 years of service to the Nicholasville Police Department and spent more than eight years as a deputy at the Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office. His passing leaves a significant void in the lives of his family, friends, and the many people he served throughout his career.

His wife, Clarine Prather, has organized a fundraiser to support the family during this challenging time. Due to delays with his death benefits and unexpected issues with his desired burial arrangements, Clarine is facing financial difficulties. She has not received a paycheck after taking FMLA to care for Richard during his illness, and all her resources have gone toward their bills. The fundraiser aims to raise $8,000 to assist with funeral expenses and other pressing needs. As of now, the fundraiser is just beginning, and the community is encouraged to support the family in their time of need.

Many in the community have expressed their sorrow and shared fond memories of Richard on social media. Kevin Peel shared, "Richard was first and foremost a good man. He made us a good deputy when he came to us after serving admirably with the Nicholasville Police. My prayers and condolences go out to his family." Laurie Sullivan Roop added, "Oh my. How sad. Prayers for comfort for his family." Numerous others, including Brian E. Peel, Donna Garrison Cuccio, and Jan Banks Cobb, have offered prayers and condolences, reflecting the widespread impact Richard had on those around him.

Margaret Bennett Braley, who worked with Richard at the Nicholasville Police Department, poignantly remarked, "I’m so sorry. He was a very fine man. I enjoyed working with him at NPD. Prayers for family and friends." These heartfelt messages highlight the deep respect and admiration that Richard earned throughout his years of service.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Richard Prather. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Clarine, and the entire Prather family during this difficult time.
