William Willy Stone, Cortland, NY Community Reflects on the Loss of a Beloved Husband and Father

William Willy Stone, a cherished member of the Cortland, NY community, passed away on August 16, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, humor, and deep familial bonds. Willy, as he was fondly known, was 76 years old. He was the son of the late Wilford and Vera Reynolds Stone, born on October 14, 1947. He spent his life working at Petracca Construction and Pall Trinity, where he earned respect and admiration from colleagues and friends alike.

Willy’s passing is felt deeply by his wife of 54 years, Diane Stone, who now faces the future without her beloved partner. The couple shared many years together, filled with love and laughter. Willy was not only a devoted husband but also a loving father to his children, Ken Stone and Amy Alberts, and a proud grandfather to Ashlynn, Austin, Tyler, Anthony, Kenney, and Kimberly Alberts, as well as a great-grandfather to little Bella.

A man of many talents and passions, Willy was an honorary member of the McGraw Fire Department and the McGraw Sportsman’s Club. He was known for his contagious sense of humor, always ready with a joke to brighten someone’s day. Willy found joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly in driving his beloved wife Diane around town, affectionately calling it "driving Miss Daisy" as she did the shopping.

The family is currently organizing a private service at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, with a celebration of life planned for a later date. To help Diane during this difficult time, Ashlynn Stone, their granddaughter, has set up a fundraiser to assist with unexpected expenses. The goal is to raise $5,000, and although the fundraiser has just started, the family hopes the community will rally around them as they navigate this challenging period.

Willy’s positive spirit touched countless lives, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. The Stone family expresses their deep gratitude for the outpouring of love and support they have already received.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Stone family during this time of sorrow. May William Willy Stone rest in peace, and may his loved ones find comfort in the cherished memories they hold.
